Ask youngsters today what duckpins are and you can expect to see a puzzled look cross their faces.
Older Valley residents not only remember the sport, they can easily recall the days when many local bowling alleys included lanes for both ten-pin and duckpin competition.
They may also recall Victory Hill native William Toprani, a man ranked as the world’s foremost duckpin bowler.
The 1957 graduate of Monongahela High School was a phenom from his earliest days, earning him the nickname “Billy the Kid.”
