Members of the Lock No. 4 Volunteer Fire Co. — and residents and neighboring departments across the Valley — are mourning the loss of a rescue K-9 puppy that was struck and killed in North Charleroi on Monday.
Lock No. 4 Fire Chief Fred Schwalb confirmed that one of the department’s six rescue dogs, a 6-month-old Bloodhound, “Old Red,” was struck and killed by a vehicle. Schwalb, who was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for chest pains following the incident Monday, said he was unable to provide additional details as an investigation is ongoing.
