Marlene M. Owens – Carroll Township

 

Marlene M. Owens, 91, of Carroll Township, after a fulfilling life, passed away on Nov. 12, 2022. She was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Monongahela, the daughter of Frank “Jack” and Edith Santina Broggi. Marlene was a lifetime resident in the Monongahela area. After graduating from high school, she worked in the offices at Corning Glass Company in Charleroi. Marlene was married to Fred Owens for 67 years. They had two children, Lynn Boucek and Fred C. Owens II. Marlene was a very active volunteer in the Monongahela area and was a member of the Monongahela Area Historical Society for many years. Marlene was also a member of the AARP’s Monongahela chapter and was active in the Monongahela Senior Center. She was a member of the Monongahela Woman’s Club and the Charleroi Garden Club. Marlene was a volunteer at the Benedum and Byham Theaters for 24 years. She is a member of Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish in Monongahela. For many years, Marlene was a volunteer election worker for Carroll Township and Washington County. When not volunteering, Marlene loved to travel with her husband, Fred. They took many trips and visited all 50 states. She was a world traveler and particularly liked Europe, Asia and Australia. Marlene also arranged group tours from the Mon Valley to many destinations. When not volunteering or traveling, Marlene loved to play bridge. Marlene is survived by her two children, Lynn Boucek and husband Charles of Upper St. Clair, and Fred C. Owens II and wife Sue of North Canton, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Daniel, Adam and Carolyn Boucek and Stephanie Owens. In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Owens; and her brother, Franklin P. Broggi. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2022, in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Monongahela.
