A classroom at Charleroi Elementary Center was turned into a coffee shop Friday as teachers hosted a poetry slam with a “Starbooks” theme. Fourth-grade students recited poems by published authors as well as haikus of their own. With jazz music playing in the background, students sipped “lattes” (hot chocolate) as their peers read poems. At the end of each poem, positive snaps were given by those in attendance instead of claps.
