Two Belle Vernon athletes have exemplified the leadership qualities in their community to earn military academy nominations for Pennsylvania’s 14th Congressional District.
Nick Reda and Luke Henderson are two of 16 nominees from Rep. Guy Reschenthaler for the prestigious honor after undergoing the first part of a rigorous process to be nominated before possibly being accepted into an academy. Apart from Reschenthaler’s nominations, Henderson received additional backing from Pat Toomey.
Along with submitting regular applications to a military academy, nominations from congressmen, senators or current officers are required and the duo secured that through an online application to Reschenthaler. After a series of interviews, they were selected as nominees and now await decisions from the highly-competitive academies to see if they have been accepted or not.
The two are captains of Belle Vernon’s swim team while Henderson also participates in cross country and track and Reda plays soccer.
