Gene William Patterson – Monongahela

 

Gene William Patterson, 80, of Monongahela, Forward Township, died Saturday, May 27, 2023, in his home. He was born October 26, 1942, in McKeesport, the son of William George and Vida Mildred Messner Patterson. Gene was a 1960 graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School. After high school, he went on to serve in the U.S. Army for several years. He was employed at John Hancock Insurance Company and Prudential Insurance Company where he retired. He was a member of Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish in Monongahela. He loved being a part of the “breakfast club” with his buddies and twin brother, Dene, at Bill’s Golfland and going to the casino. Gene was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His life revolved around caring for his family. He was a caring, thoughtful, and kind soul who made friends with anyone and embraced them as his family. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Romeo Patterson, with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage on July 31, 2022; daughters, Gina (Eric Midgley) Patterson-Midgley of Jackson, Wyo., twins, Carla (Keith) Stark of Cranberry Township and Darla Fortwangler of Pittsburgh, Anita (Brian Orlovsky) Mohney of Kennedy Township; six grandchildren, Brandon and Christopher Mohney, Lewie and Amanda Fortwangler, Aleksander and Nicholas Stark; sister, Dana (Don) Schwaed of Elizabeth; brother, Gary (Carol) Patterson of West Newton; brother-in-law, Bob McCorkle of Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Patterson and Sandy Patterson, both of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother who raised him, Alice Patterson; sister, Joanne McCorkle; brother, Dwayne Patterson; and his twin brother, Dene Patterson. At the request of the family, services for Gene were private. Interment was held in the West Newton Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.
