Richard F. ‘Dick’ Wright – Greenock, formerly of Monongahela

Richard F. “Dick” Wright Jr., 90, of Greenock, formerly of Monongahela, died Friday, July 7, in McMurray Hills Manor in McMurray, Pa. Born Aug. 12, 1932, in Bob-town, Pa., he was the son of Richard F. Wright Sr. and Evelyn (Helmich) Wright. A 1950 graduate of Point Marion High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. In 1956, he married Penny Tosi of Fredericktown and soon moved to Monongahela, where he worked as a meat manager for Piscitelli’s market. He had a long career as an insurance agent for Prudential and was the owner of the Carousel Lounge in Monongahela for many years. He was active in local politics and served as a Republican committee member for Washington County. He was elected to the Ringgold School Board in the 1970s. He was known to be the “father” of the Ringgold ice hockey team, which he started in 1973 and coached in the 1970s and 1980s. They later moved to New Port Richie, Fla., where they lived for 30 years before moving to Elizabeth Township. He was an active member of many social and service clubs. He served as president of the Italian Mutual Benefit Society in Monongahela, as a past commander of the VFW and was an active member of the American Legion Post 447 in Port Vue. He was also active in the former St. Anthony Catholic Church in Monongahela. Surviving are his son, Richard F. Wright III and wife Denise of Greenock; daughter, Linda Drnach and her husband Daniel Drnach of Donora; sister, Sandra Kite of Carmichaels; eight grandchildren, Amy (Dr. Stephen) Bader, Daniel II (Martha) Drnach, Laura (Jason) Rock, Richard IV and Maxwell Wright, Scott (Whitney) Wright, Nicole (Vinnie) Destefano and Zachary (Maria) Wright; and 12 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife, Penny, who died Jan. 19, 2021; his brother, Patrick Wright; his brother, Alfred J. Wright; and his son, Scott Wright, who died Dec. 16, 2021. Friends will be received at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday July 9, 2023. A blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2023, with Deacon Al Poroda officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery (Carroll Township) with military honors conducted by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.
