Monongahela council voted to approve the Active Transportation Plan during Wednesday’s meeting following the public unveiling of its final draft last month.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health awarded a $25,000 grant through the WalkWorks program to Monongahela in October 2022, which is what led to the creation of the Active Transportation Plan. The project is intended to improve accessibility in Monongahela, hoping to accommodate other modes of transportation besides motor vehicles.
“We can make the motion to set the plan as an adoptive plan for anything in the future we might do with transportation,” Councilman Ken Kulak said.
Councilwoman Sarah O’Brien chimed in, looking for clarification on the plan.
Kulak assured her that the plan is amendable.
“It’s something that can always be opened back up and adjusted over years of time,” Kulak said.
