Thanks to a high-number of flu cases, the Charleroi Area School District has seen its highest count of absenteeism this month.
Superintendent Dr. Ed Zelich said a significant surge in flu cases at the school last week led to virtual learning on Thursday and Friday.
While students returned to class in person Monday, the district still experienced a high number of absences.
Zelich said across district schools, 36% of students were absent. At least 30 students in the elementary center were sent home Monday.
The district does not plan to transition to virtual learning this week, however Zelich said parents should be careful when considering sending students back to class.
