One day after Washington County’s controller was charged with felony counts of cruelty to animals, seven county officials have called for her resignation.
County Controller April Sloane is free on $150,000 bond after she was charged Tuesday for allegedly neglecting her dog, Thor, until it died last month.
Washington County commissioners Chair Diana Irey Vaughan, Vice Chair Larry Maggi and Nick Sherman joined commissioner-elect Electra Janis, county Treasurer Tom Flickinger, Prothonotary Laura Hough and Recorder of Deeds Carrie Perrell in issuing a statement Wednesday asking Sloane to resign her elected position.
Sherman and Flickinger are also both board members of the Washington County Abused Animal Relief Fund.
“We, the undersigned Washington County elected officials, call on county Controller April Sloane to resign her office effective immediately. Ms. Sloane faces two felony counts, one for causing serious bodily injury and one for torture, of animal cruelty in connection with the death of her dog, Thor,” the statement reads.
Sloane did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
