Decoration in Monongahela sparks memories of long ago

The Monongahela Area Historical Society hung this star — one of several that originally lined Main Street in 1959 — for about 90 minutes during Merry and Bright Night in front of the Longwell House.

On Monongahela’s Merry and Bright Night, a Christmas decoration made during the Eisenhower administration was hung from a utility pole outside of the Longwell House. Several of the decorations — aluminum stars with 20 lights on either side — lined Monongahela’s Main Street in Decembers from 1959 until sometime in the 1970s, according to the Monongahela Area Historical Society.
