During the first official voting meeting of the year, Charleroi council will have new leaders for the borough’s various committees.
During Wednesday’s council meeting, committees were assigned by new council President Kristin Hopkins-Calcek.
Annual committee assignments were briefly put on hold last year after former council president Frank Paterra took over in January.
Assignments were revisited mid-2023, as various council people were assigned to different roles.
Hopkins-Calcek, who was elected in November, reassigned those roles Wednesday, one of the first of several discussions items on the agenda.
After presentations from K2 engineers and grant writer Terry Planton, she explained that before assigning roles, she took into consideration other council members preferences and opened it up for discussion amongst her colleagues.
“When deciding these committees, I tried to the best of my ability, to use everyone’s expertise in placement, as well as their interests,” she said. “I hope these are comfortable.”
There were no objections.
Councilman Paul Pivovarnik will serve as finance chairman, with help from Hopkins-Calcek.
New Councilman Tom Santoro will serve as public works chairman alongside Vice President Jerry Jericho.
Parks, recreation and special events will be led by Jericho with help from Councilman Larry Celaschi.
