There is an old saying that claims, “The third time is the charm.”
Yet, another one notes, “It is hard to beat a team three times in one season.”
You can bet that Serra Catholic girls basketball coach Mike Voit is hoping both are extremely true.
Voit’s Eagles take on rival Greensburg Central Catholic in the WPIAL 2A championship game this evening at the Peterson Events Center. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
The Eagles (21-4) and Centurions (19-6) came out of the same section and GCC beat Serra in both of their meetings during the season on the way to winning the section crown.
In fact, GCC handed Serra its last loss, 59-47, exactly one month ago on Jan. 29. The other loss to the Centurions was by a 66-53 score.
“I’m not going to lie,” said Serra coach Mike Voit. “I’m not going to say it won’t be a tough game to win. They have a good team, a great program and are well-coached.
“The first two times, we felt we didn’t play our best games,” he added. “It’s pretty much on us. If we don’t make the mistakes we did earlier and do the things we are capable of, we can win.”
