Elizabeth Forward School Board awarded the first construction contract, a $1,043,800 bid from McKamish Inc., for the district’s plan to renovate the high school following last year’s fire.
The district’s plan includes construction of a new gymnasium, auditorium, main entrance and lobby and electrical and HVAC upgrades.
McKamish Inc., based in Pittsburgh, supplied the lowest bid. The family-owned company has done renovations at Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh and Mount Lebanon High School, to name a few, according to the company website.
Board President Thomas Sharkey spoke Wednesday about the significance of moving forward with the district’s construction project.
“Today, we’re going to make a motion here, and we’re finally going to get moving in the right direction since the fire, so I think today’s a big day,” Sharkey said. “We have a long way to go, but this is the first step.”
