EIP shares benzene concerns

The Environmental Integrity Project sent a letter to six U.S. senators, including Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, detailing concerns about high benzene concentrations at U.S. Steel’s Clairton Coke Works and possibly the company’s Edgar Thomson facility in Braddock. According to Lisa Marcucci, Pennsylvania coordinator for the nonprofit EIP, the high concentrations include high levels inside the Clairton plant as well as along the fenceline. The goal is to reduce air pollution.
