Gas up the buses and pack your bags, it’s PIAA playoff time.
The quest for state championship for eight local basketball teams begins Friday and Saturday, and a few will be looking for great gas mileage and toll money.
The state postseason begins Friday for the South Allegheny boys, Monessen boys and girls, Serra Catholic girls and the Clairton girls.
Of those, only Serra Catholic will have the benefit of a home game.
The Eagles (21-5) will host District 6 third-place team Bishop McCort (24-2) at the Nest in McKeesport, so they’ve been spared from a far hike for the second straight season.
The nation’s top female scorer, Iyanna Wade and her 40.5 points per game, will travel a “short” hour and 43 minutes to Redbank Valley (20-5) as the Bears (19-6) look to gather in a state playoff win.
