Wade, Bears look to take down Crushers

Clairton’s Iyanna Wade is the highest-scoring girls player in the nation. She scored 39 points in the Bears’ PIAA first-round win over District 9 champion Redbank Valley.

Clairton girls basketball continues to usher in an era with one of the best scorers in recent memory in Iyanna Wade, so it’s no surprise that she willed them to their first state playoff victory in 19 years on Friday. Wade, who has eclipsed 2,000 career points as a junior, and the Bears (20-6) traveled an hour and a half to Redbank Valley and left with a 55-51 win. She poured in 39 points as Clairton made its first state playoff appearance since 2020 when it lost in the first round to Blacklick Valley.
