Charleroi Borough’s fulltime code enforcement officer has only been on the job for more than a month, but said he is already noticing a difference in town.
Jamie Stache was hired to take over the job in February.
Before that move, the borough with without a full-time code enforcement officer since August 2022.
Last September the borough hired Dennis E. Smith, owner of United Code Consultants of Canonsburg, to help handle code enforcement in the borough for $65-per-hour on an interim basis.
The borough decided that while UCC was doing a good job, the borough needed someone full-time to enforce code issues.
When Stache was hired, council agreed to keep UCC on at its rate of $65 per hour as needed to handle commercial inspections, therefore terminating the borough’s arrangement with Building Inspection Underwriters of Pennsylvania.
Stache gave a full report to council on Wednesday.
In the past month, Stache said he has given warnings for 102 violations in town for various problems.
