Donald E. Carson – Monongahela

 

Donald E. Carson, 77, of Monongahela, Carroll Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, in Jefferson Hospital. Born March 10, 1947, in Monongahela, he was the son of the late J. Donald and Mary Jane Rose Carson. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Monongahela and was a proud Vietnam veteran. Don retired from U.S. Steel’s Clairton Works and was an active member of American Legion Post 949 in Carroll Township and their Friday night euchre league. He was also a member of Henry M. Phillips Masonic Lodge No. 337 and Monongahela Elks Lodge 455. His most treasured times were spent working on his farm and being with his family. Surviving to cherish Don’s memory are his wife of 54 years, Sandy Becker Carson; and his three loving children, Jodi (Tim) Ford, Shane (Kristen) Carson and Brandon (Amy) Carson. He was also the proud pap of Shelby (Josh) Snyder, Logan Ford, Morgan (Josh) Merschat, Kara Zeigler, Billy Balsley and Stella and Izzy Carson; and great-grandchildren, Kenleigh Ravenscraft, Freddie, Lucas and Remi Zeiger and Brynn Snyder. He is also survived by his brother, Frank (Debra) Carson; brother-in-law, Robert Holowich; aunt, Rosemary Hancock; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. He will be missed by his best buddy dog, Bo. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Heather Dawn; his sister, Lou Ann Holowich; and his beloved in-laws, Walter and Stella Becker. The family would like to thank the nurses at AHN Jefferson Hospital for taking such good care of him over the past few weeks, especially the ICU nurses, Gabbie, Nancy and Maggie. Friends will be received at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, from noon to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024. Everyone is asked to go directly to First United Methodist Church, 430 W. Main St., Monongahela on Monday, April 29, 2024, for services beginning at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Zayzay Gwepougee Kpadeh officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Creek Cemetery, Fallowfield Township, with military honors conducted by the Mon Valley Firing Squad and Honor Guard.
