Bentworth softball coach Jack Cramer has been telling his young team the same thing all spring.

“I always keep reminding them that’s winning at the varsity level is not easy,” the veteran coach stated. “We try to keep it one game at a time and keep everything in front of us without looking ahead. Consistently winning is never easy.”

The Bearcats passed another stiff test Wednesday afternoon against Section 3-2A foe and Mon Valley rival Charleroi, as Sydney Gonglik once again led the young, Bentworth squad with a one-hit, 15-strikeout performance in a 4-0 triumph that pushed their winning streak to nine games.

“I have never been around a softball team that is on a run like this,” Cramer said. “We have not allowed a run for over a month. It has been unbelievable to watch. A lot of that has to do with the way Syd is pitching, but I thought our defense made some stellar plays. I was happy to be in a tight game and to see how these girls responded when they face a tough team like Charleroi.”
