As the 2024 primary election draws near, there are two races for the state House that are uncontested this month but the incumbents will face challengers in November.
39th Legislative District
In the 39th Legislative District, state Rep. Andrew Kuzma, R-Elizabeth Township, is in the final stretch of his first full term and will seek reelection. He is unopposed in Tuesday’s primary election, but will face Democrat Angela Girol in November.
58th Legislative District
In the 58th Legislative District, state Rep. Eric Davanzo, R-Smithton, is in his second full term, but this is his third reelection campaign.
Davanzo first won a special election in March 2020 after former state Rep. Justin Walsh won his bid for judge in the Westmoreland Court of Common Pleas. Davanzo was then reelected to full terms in 2020 and 2022.
He is unopposed in next week’s Primary, but in November he’ll face Democrat Cherri Rogers of Scottdale. Rogers ran for Scottdale Borough Council in November. That race ended in a tie and when she and the other candidate pulled marbles to break the tie, Rogers came in second.
Rogers is a certified school nurse at Pittsburgh Public Schools with more than 30 years experience and describes herself as an advocate for women’s healthcare privacy and for equitable healthcare for all.
