Roundup: Serra Catholic blows out GCC; EF, Yough cruise

In what was thought to be one of the best in Section 2-2A softball, Wednesday’s matchup between Serra Catholic and Greensburg Central Catholic was anything but that.

The Eagles smashed 15 hits and rolled to a 14-1 win over the Centurions in five innings.

Kelly Morrissey had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove home five runs to lead the Eagles’ offensive attack. Keyara Watkins had a double, single and four RBIs for Serra.

Madisyn Zigarovich picked up the win in the circle, throwing only 72 pitches in five innings and scattering four hits. She also drove in a pair of runs.

Cassidy Trahan and Maria Goldstein each added RBIs for Serra Catholic.

Julianna Saxion labored in the circle for GCC (2-2, 2-2). She threw 101 pitches in her 2 2/3 innings of work. She allowed 11 hits and was tagged for 11 runs.

Delanie Kuhns had a double for the Centurions.

The Eagles (5-1, 4-0) are back in action at home Friday against Brentwood.

Yough 14, Derry 3 (6)

Kylee Fisher was dominant offensively and defensively for the Cougars Wednesday.

Fisher had four hits, including a double, and drove in six runs to lead the Yough (4-1, 3-1) offense. Kiersten Odelli and Payton Jenkins each added three hits with Jenkins driving in a pair of runs.

In the circle, Fisher scattered five hits and struck out six to earn the win.

Haylee Myers had a pair of hits for Derry (2-7, 0-4).

The Cougars head to East Allegheny Thursday.

Elizabeth Forward 15, Laurel Highlands 0

Shelby Telegdy threw a three-inning no-hitter, smashed two home runs and drove in five runs as the Warriors crushed the Mustangs in Section 2-4A.

Julia Resnik homered and singled, and Carlee Soukup and Julia Johnson each added three hits for EF (8-0, 6-0).

Alivia Grimm finished with a double, single and three RBIs for the Warriors.

EF has outscored its last six opponents, 85-0.

The Warriors travel to Greensburg Salem Friday.

Bishop Canevin 6

Joey Hurst doubled, singled and finished with three RBIs as the Greyhounds (3-2, 3-1) held off Bishop Canevin (0-6, 0-4) in a Section 3-1A rematch from Tuesday.

Grace Clingenpeel doubled, singled and drove home a run for Monessen, and Ayvionna Minnie had two RBIs.

In the circle, Hurst struck out 12 on 119 pitches.

Monessen is back at it today against St. Joseph at home.
